Building your Business in the Skilled Trades – A Workshop Series funded by Ron Bedard

Crafting your pathway to Entrepreneurship in the Skilled Trades

In partnership with the Marshall School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship, The Centre for Entrepreneurship at Mohawk College offers Building your Business in the Skilled Trades, A Workshop Series funded by Ron Bedard. Open to all students enrolled in skilled trades programs, this series empowers students with knowledge, confidence, and exposure to entrepreneurship early in their careers. Whether you plan to work for a company, run your own business one day, or are simply exploring your options, these sessions help you to make informed decisions about your future.

Why Attend Building your Business in the Skilled Trades?

The Building Your Business in the Skilled Trades Workshop Series is designed specifically for students in the trades who are curious about what’s possible beyond the job site.

These monthly Lunch & Learn sessions connect students with real trades entrepreneurs who have successfully built their own businesses. You’ll hear honest, behind-the-scenes stories about how they got started, what worked, what didn’t, and what they wish they had known earlier in their careers.

What You’ll Gain

By attending, students will:

  • Learn how trades skills can translate into business ownership and self-employment
  • Gain practical insights into starting and growing a business in the trades
  • Understand common challenges and mistakes – and how to avoid them
  • Build confidence to explore entrepreneurship as a real career path
  • Ask questions and learn directly from entrepreneurs who’ve been where you are

Co-Curricular Record (CCR) Recognition

Students who attend one or more workshops are eligible to receive recognition on their Co-Curricular Record (CCR), helping you showcase your entrepreneurial engagement and professional development outside the classroom.
